The photographs in this series were made at construction sites in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Jersey City between October 17, 2001 and October 26, 2001, about 6 weeks after the September 11 attacks. The construction sites were chosen for their proximity to the World Trade Center, and for having a clear view of the attacks.

All the men in these photographs witnessed the attacks. Most helped clear the rubble in the following days.

This shot is the World Trade Center site (center) seen from Jersey City across the Hudson River.
